If you have an actual IRC client, and do not wish to use the Java version of the chat, you can point your irc client to irc.sgwirc.com. The main channel is #Stargate-Worlds.

You can view that listing by clicking the Channels box at the top left of the chat window! To join a channel, just double click one of the channels with a # before the name.
